Frequently Asked Questions

Is this legal?

Yes. The way this works is, I don't actually buy the music. I buy it for you — acting as your proxy, or agent. I don't make a copy for myself, and your collection never mingles with my collection. Evah. Trust me — my iTunes library is plenty big. And, though I have many good friends who are lawyers, I like them as friends, not as instruments of torture.

Who died and left you in charge (or what makes you so good)?

I eat, sleep, breathe and live music. Almost all day every day, I am scouting the newest, the coolest, the unhead-of, the forgotten, the wide wide wide wide wide world of music; and, generally seeking out the stuff that should be in your iPod. One day, in a conversation with a good friend, he said, "I just don't have the time to go and find all this cool music, ya know?" LIght bulb snaaps on over my head, and here we are.

Couldn't I just go out and buy some compilation CDs and do this myself?

Of course! After you've bought 25 compilation CDs, listened to them end-to-end, taken the best four tracks from each worth listening to, discarded the other six, you'll be in great shape.

How do I know your selections won't suck?

For the most part, I'll be buying what you tell me to. I will have (shortly) a large number of pre-assembled playlists of roughly 100 songs, grouped by category, use, or mood. Things like "Island Music," or "Workout Music," or "Music to get Good and Freaky to." As proof of how good I feel about the songs, I'll be posting the lists, or parts of the lists, in the coming days and weeks, with links to the various stores where you can buy them yourself. By all means, come by, click on the tracks, and go buy them yourself. That's only the part of the service I offer, and if you just want to benefit from my knowledge, I am happy to oblige. It'd be cool if you use my links to do this so I get a cut of what you spend from the msuci services, but I obviously can't and won't try to enforce that.

Isn't that cutting your own throat?

No. What I provide is the service of "taking care of it" for people who don't have the time to do it themselves. Not only will I fill their iPods, I will back up the tracks I buy on their behalf twice. So, if they lose the iPod, or the hard drive on their computer goes kaput, rebuilding their library is as simple as picking up the phone.

I'm in Bora Bora at the St. Regis Resort, and I just dropped my iPod in the water — can you help?

Sure. I'll be happy to buy a replacement, load it with some kick-ass music, pick up some rocking headphones, a waterproof case, jump on a plane, and have it to you as soon as is humanly possible given the close to 24 hours in flying time. As you can imagine, this isn't the cheapest service I offer. If you have to ask, you can't afford it.
